ALEXANDRIA & EL ALAMEIN

Put together the coastal city of Alexandria with the Commonwealth war fatal of El Alamein on this 3 day tour out of Cairo. Enjoy guided sightseeing of the Roman Catacombs, Pompey’s Pillar, the Library of Alexandria, promenade seafront together with Qaitbay Fort in Alexandria, and of the war sérieux and museum in El Alamein.

Day couple of - Alexandria Cairo – Alexandria. Early this morning most people travel to the port side city of Alexandria on Egypt’s Mediterranean Coast. Founded by Alexander the Great, windswept Alexandria has wonderful beaches and an attractive seafront corniche, spotted with bars and restaurants. The first stop on our taken tour today is the Roman catacombs, the largest known Both roman burial site in Egypt, which consist of three sections of tombs and chambers. These remarkable 35m profound catacombs, contain over 300 mummies and were learned accidentally in 1900 when a donkey drawn cart lost control into a pit. We also visit Pompey’s Pillar slow down to see the exterior of the impressive Library of Alexandria, in advance of taking a stroll along the corniche, with views of the attractive Mediterranean Sea. At the end of the corniche stands the Citadel with Qaitbey, a striking fortress which was built during the 1480s. We consider a guided tour of the citadel which is built above the remains of the great Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Ten Wonders of the Ancient World. Hotel check in and period to freshen up before heading out for a drive along the corniche and dinner (included). Overnight - elalamein(B, D)

Daytime 3 - El Alamein Alexandria – El Alamein - Cairo. Leaving Alexandria we travel on to look at the Commonwealth War Graves of El Alamein today. Not one but two extended World War II battles were fought during El Alamein, which resulted in 13, 000 Allied defense force being killed and 70, 000 wounded. We check out the well-tended Commonwealth war cemetery and the informative El Alamein museum, which houses lots of original WWII memorabilia, as well as documents the complete history of World War II around North Africa. In the afternoon we return to Cairo. For anybody who is commencing another tour with us you will be transferred to the visit start hotel. If not, please consider post tour holiday accomodations.
